Web browsing and normal file downloads all have equal priority on our Internet connection; however, file-sharing programs are restricted so that they can only use a certain portion of our total connection bandwidth. This effectively allows file sharing, but makes it very slow, since many users are trying to use a smaller connection. We were forced to make a decision about file sharing when it became apparent that these programs could completely saturate our internet lines and make the connection unusable for more legitimate academic purposes. <p>I have a Twitter, use it every once in awhile. I was wondering if any of you use it in some cool/different ways being college students. When I was trying to encourage friends to sign up last year, I told them we should all sign up and subscribe to each others tweets as text messages. I thought that one of us could tweet something like "Heading to Whataburger, anybody want to join?" and everybody else would receive it immediately and be able to respond. It seemed like the perfect way to organize college students (something that I have found to be nearly impossible). It never really panned out this way, and Twitter for me ultimately felt lacking as a result. <p>I hope I can help anyone else in this situation, </p> <p>Basically I'm going to college next year for the first time, and I own a desktop computer, i.e., the Dell XPS 720. Let's just say it's about the same area of a mini-fridge, and twice as heavy. It's aptly named "Bubba", and plays just about anything. </p> <p>Anyways, I hope to take this bad boy to college next year, but I also am getting a laptop for in class notes. Since I got a really healthy college tuition break, I hope to get a really nice one, i.e., the 15" Alienware M15x. </p> <p>Without going much further, should I bring both? The Alienware easily outgames the XPS, so I can't claim I would use it for that.
