The Discuss Campus Race to 5,000 is a running contest to reward the site's best users. You get rewards by reaching certain reputation thresholds.

We want to spread the rewards out as evenly as possible, so e**ach user is limited to one prize. Once you reach a reward threshold, you can either accept the prize at that level or keep going.**

Here's the current list of prizes (Updated Feb. 12, 2010):

Regarding the laptop skins:

The laptop skins are for the first 10 people that reach 1,000. By accepting a laptop skin you do not disqualify yourself for the other rewards. Sweet!

Please note that the winner has to prove that he/she is a student with a .edu email address to claim the prize.

Great way to grow the activity of a lot of people, according to me, since it was pretty much dying a little here.

But don't you think people will stop voting on each other, because they will get more points?

It seems like a great idea but I'm with StefanSSF on this. Whenever you have something that is based on competitors upvoting, self-interest gets in the way of actual wisdom brought from the hivemind.

But in any case, it's bringing attention to a very interesting site.

You can't upvote yourself, and people will notice if you don't upvote others. Also down voting someone takes points away from yourself. – Mohammad Feb 7 at 15:19

It's kind of hard to earn reputation points on this site due to the lack of users. Would it be crazy to suggest incentives for referrals to the site?

I just added some more prizes at lower levels, so hopefully those provide a greater incentive to a few folks as well. – Kelly Sutton Feb 12 at 22:19
Amazing, thanks Kelly! – Chad Feb 14 at 20:26

The Discuss Campus Race to 5,000 is a contest on this site. The first user to reach a reputation of 5,000 will win a Dell Mini 10 netbook. (The reputation is that number next to your name.)

So... I'm thinking about cashing in on the USB stick... I tried looking it up, is 2 GB a good amount?

I do need a new computer, so I really want that Dell mini. Although, any of the prizes are cool. Very cool idea, and a great way to promote the site. You guys are smarter than the average bear.
