Well, excluding discusscampus and hackcollege,

By my question I mean what websites have you come across that offer unique and/or relatively useful information/features for students?

Some examples include:

(for prospective students)

(and maybe sites that didn't help)

And stuff like that!

This question is left intentionally open ended for you to truly be creative with your answers!* Once again: What sites over the years have you used for your education?

Checkout CollegeDrop.com. I just launched it early this week. It's a directory of great college resources and websites. Covers everything from college blogs to financial aid.

Not trying to advertise BTW, just thought I would post it because it's a useful place for students to find great college websites.

Purdue University's Online Writing Lab is pretty excellent for pretty much any writing format question; it won't make your bibliographies for you but will show you how to make them.

WOW! This prospective English major tanks you greatly! Thanks! – Mr.Domino Mar 7 at 22:58

BibMe.com is a great resource when you have to write bibliographies. Throughout college I've had to write bibliographies in various formats (MLA, APA, etc), and quite frankly have zero interest in studying the nuances between them. BibMe juggles all the technicalities for you and has a very user-friendly interface that works with a range of sources. You can save your bibliographies if you want to add items over the course of writing your paper and let's you download it perfectly formatted in a Word file. It's a huge time saver and it's free!

  • www.jimpryor.net -for tips on writing philosophy papers

  • www.ratemyprofessor.com -for tips on which professors are good and what their midterms and classes are like (or for finding out which classes are easiest)

Some of the reviews from that second site are cracking me up. Thanks for your input! – Mr.Domino Mar 7 at 23:01

It's really useful to find the top blogs in whatever field you're in and keep track of 'em for useful information, paper topics, etc. (For example, Sociological Images for Sociology and Feministing for Women Studies.) Your professors might have suggestions, if they're tech savvy, for ones to watch. This is especially useful if you're in a field that's still rapidly changing or that analyzes modern culture-- there might not be as many blogs about 15th century Russian literature than about Queer Studies topics. If your field is rapidly changing (or, even better, still being defined!) it's quite likely that these blogs are where the discourse about your field is going on; you can be on the cutting edge-- and ahead of your fellow students-- just by reading the discourse as it unfolds.

Yes! I am using Fastweb to get the funding so I can get a minibar in my dorm (only joking). Really, it is one of the best, if not for my personal favorite, zinch :) I have read through your site and think you make great points and assistance. Ah, and congrats on getting to 1000!!! – Mr.Domino Feb 22 at 22:41

wolframalpha.com - Helpful to science/engineering majors especially. For looking up things quickly and easily.

easybib.com - I can never remember MLA format, makes citing your papers a little less of a drag.

dropbox.com - I use it to backup all of my course papers and files online. 2GB free with automatic uploading from the folder. Love it.

mint.com - To keep track of what little money I have as a college student.

rememberthemilk.com - Get things done. Great to do list. I have actually stopped using it and just add everything I have to do to a central calendar.

There are probably more but I am working at the moment and not in class for another month to remember everything I use.

Ah! Easybib is great! I love the autocite feature. Soooo great. I also like that you mentioned dropbox, because it reminds me of my favorite file upload site, mediafire.com. Thanks a bunch for your great answer! – Mr.Domino Feb 22 at 22:04

Along the lines of easybib.com, check out citationmachine.net - fill in the info and it creates the citations for you in either MLA, APA, Turabian, or Chicago. Priceless. – Chad Feb 24 at 18:13
Yeah, another great time saver, and sometimes life saver. Thanks a bunch Chad. – Mr.Domino Feb 24 at 22:50
